What is Going On?

Well today at work we had a lot mysterious issues with some of the computers. Things like Outlook freezing or shutting down, mapped drives not appearing, icons disappeared, computers running really slow, and not booting up to Windows. It appeared that none of these problems were related in any way.

The Fix

In each of these issues, we rebooted the system before conducting any other diagnosis. In each and every case, the rebooting of the computer resolved the issue.

Rebooting a computer is one of our most-often used solutions. Rebooting clears the memory makes room for those processes that need it. Rebooting also closes those processes that are not in use and are holding memory.

Why, Why, Why?

Why does a system need rebooting? Leaving a computer on for prolonged periods. If the computer has been used a lot especially by resource intensive programs, in only a short time the system may start showing signs of strain. Also, leaving a computer on or not rebooting for days at a time, which I see often will cause the system’s performance to degrade.

So if you computer starts running slow, or doing things that are not normal like I mentioned above, try rebooting your computer first, it may fix what ailing your computer.
