Need to get a CD or DVD out of your computer? Whether your CD/DVD drive is not working, your computer is locked up, or the computer is turned off, you can get that disc out easily. First, you will need a special too–a paper clip. Take the paper clip and bend it like the one in the image below. Click the thumbnail for a larger image.

Next, find the small hole on the CD/DVD drive.

If you cannot find a small hole, the hole may be covered by the computers face plate. This is common on computers like the Dell Optiplex GX260 and GX270. Just remove the faceplate to access the hold.

Now just put the paper clip in the hole and push the paper clip inwards. Make sure you keep the paper clip level. Note: you may have to take the paper clip out and insert it again to get the CD/DVD tray open all the way.

In case you have to know how this works, just look at the image below of a disassembled CD drive. Note: the gear labeled 3 attaches to the CD/DVD tray which has gears on the bottom.
