We’ve talked about tweaking your computer to speed it other posts, but you computer is still running like the proverbial turtle. Now, download my free report The Computer Tech’s Best Kept Secrets and you will get your computer running faster.
However, sometimes all the tweaks just won’t get the computer running to its peak performance. Now maybe the time to think about a reinstall of your system. Even if you do all the right things, sometimes a reload is the best option, especially with Windows XP.
Before you reinstall Windows, back up your data! A reload will erase everything on the hard drive.
You will also need to set a few hours aside to reinstall Windows and then reload all your programs. Make sure you note your network/internet connection settings.
I also recommend that you download and run Belarc Advisor. Belarc will comply an inventory or our computer and will make it easier to re-install all your programs.
If you decide to reload, go to Microsoft.com or Google to find instruction on reloading your system.
Before you reinstall, download my free tips, The Computer Tech’s Best Kept Secrets .

I dont think that a reinstall would benefit much. What is needed is a format of ur drive and then a fresh copy of WIn XP. Having 3-4 partitions on ur HDD helps in formatting ur windows partition regularly…1 partition for windows (around 10gb), 1 for installations( around 10 gb), the rest in 1 partition for ur permanent dumps
By formatting and installing a fresh copy of windows, one benefits much more becos:
- File tables are created anew boosting performance manifolds.
- remoiving fragmentation effectively
- removing small virus/spywares/adwares effectively.
-removing file table errors
Trust me, reinstalling only benefits u by 10-15 %, wasting time and the performance is back to square 1 within 2 weeks.

Agreed - formatting and installing. I usually stick with just two partitions - one for Windows and programs, the other for documents. I actually haven’t had to reinstall, thankfully. But perhaps on a rainy day when a spyware manages to get into my computer, I’ll have to reformat.
