In a previous post called “No More http://, www, or .com. Easy tip saves time.“, I show you how to save time by using some keyboard shortcuts when entering a URL. Just like that shortcut, there are dozens more that can make your surfing faster and easier.
I have listed the shortcuts that I use the most and the ones that help me save time. Try these shortcuts when you are using Firefox and see if they help. You can also go to the Firefox website and find lots more shortcuts.
| Command | Shortcut |
| Stop downloading a page | Esc |
| Refresh (override cache) | Ctrl + F5 |
| Refresh | Ctrl + R |
| Open/close the Bookmarks pane | Ctrl + B |
| Add a bookmark (defaults to the active page) | Ctrl + D |
| Open/close the History pane | Ctrl + H |
| Open a new tab in the current Firefox window | Ctrl + T |
| Open address in a new tab | Alt + Enter |
| Open the Home page | Alt + Home |
| Find | Ctrl + F |
| Delete the selected Autocomplete entry | Shift + D |
| Add “www.” to the beginning and “.com” to the end of the text in the Location bar | Ctrl + Enter |
| Add “www.” to the beginning and “.org” to the end of the text in the Location bar | Ctrl + Shift + Enter |
| Add “www.” to the beginning and “.net” to the end of the text in the Location bar | Shift + Enter |
If you use some or all of these shortcuts, you’ll find that they become instinctive and will save you lots of time. You might want to print them out and put them next to you keyboard or monitor so they’ll be handy.

i use ctrl + enter and ctrl + F all the time. saves a lot of time and very convenient too. you’re right, once you find how useful they are, they’d become instinctive and automatic.
