Free People Search by Spock
There is a new way to search for people using the Internet and it’s free. Still in beta version, Spock is already a phenomenon in internet searching.
So what is Spock? It is a cross between a search engine and Wikipedia and is only about people–Famous people, important people, and every day people.
What Spock isn’t. Spock is not a social network.
What makes Spock unique? First and foremost, Spock is a database that contains only people. Spock also contains all types of people, not just historic figures or famous people.
Entries in Spock have tags, so you can search by a tag and not just by name. Best of all, individuals can add tags to the person, update information, or and content about the person. Visitors can also add pictures and web links and they have the ability to vote on the relevance of the entry.
Spock is also a membership site. You can join for free and add your profile to the database making it easy for someone to find you. You can add tags that are relevant about you making even easier to find you.
To illustrate the power of Spock, I did a people search for Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Computers. I entered “Michael Dell into the search box without any tags or other search criteria. The results showed dozens of results but the first return was the Michal Dell I was searching for. I click on this link, http://www.spock.com/Michael-Dell and found Michael’s bio and lots of other information.
Once you find the person you are searching for, there is a widget link that produces some JavaScript that can be inserted into a website or blog. See the widget below.
