Microsoft is going to release Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 via its Automatic Update (AU) service on Thursday July 10.
Windows XP users who have automatic updates turned on but who don’t want XP SP3 to be downloaded to their desktops need to deploy the Microsoft Service Pack blocker toolkit to delay auto-delivery of SP3.
While Microsoft will begin pushing SP3 tomorrow but not all users will receive it immediately, because Microsoft will be staggering the rollout.
Warning: Windows XP SP 3 is a large download and requires some time to install. Download and install times will vary by computers.

When I got in this morning my computer was already installing it. Any downsides? I didn’t even know this was coming out today. So far so good I suppose.

@Nate,
For the most part there have not been many issues. Should be ok.

Yeah so far so good. I’ll post back here if I run into any issues.

Thanks for the heads up! I like to wait until things have their bugs worked out.

I think this is a great respite for all the troubled Windows users like me… And I believe XP is still 1000 times better than Vista.

Well once again so far so good. I’m not even really sure what is added with this update, but I’m not having any issues as of yet.
Janet Giacoma: I agree with waiting. I have my PC at home set to not download updates for the same reason.
Gemini: I’m running Vista 64 bit at home and it runs like a charm. Much better than the older releases of Vista. It was kind of a pain to install and there are still a couple of driver issues, but it’s come a long long way since the first release.
They’re getting there.

Thanks for the post dude. I am not willing to download SP3.

I honestly haven’t noticed a difference. I wouldn’t have downloaded it either, but my machine at work was set to do this automatically. Not anymore though.

You know, I am all for microsoft pushing out small updates automatically, however they really should *not* push out a massive update like this in one hit. For people that have very small 300MB/month download quotas it can cause either capped speeds or massively excessive fees.
I really do wish they would provide a single option in Windows to disable automatic service pack upgrades (or automatic updates over a certain size).
Having said this I have upgraded with success thus far, just frustrates me that it will confuzzle the heck out of my grandparents lol.
