How to find your Windows XP administrator password that your LOST or FORGOT

Situation:

1. Your account is a limited account and you cannot install programs or change some computer settings.

2. You forgot the administrator password or lost the administrator password.

If you don’t know if your account has administrator privileges or not, just go here and follow the instructions.

The first thing I would try is to log into the administrator account and leave the password it blank and click OK.

Next, try some passwords that you have used in the past. You may get lucky and stumble upon the password that you set when you installed Windows XP.

You can reload XP, which is not fun or practical especially when there is an easier option.

Try Offline NT Password and Registry Editor . It is a program that you copy to a CD, boot your computer to it, and then reset your administrator password, or any user password.

The Password Editor works with the following operating systems:

  • NT 3.51
  • NT 4
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit
  • Server 2008

Using the Password Editor can seem a little daunting especially if you have not used a DOS-type environment. It is actually easier to use than it looks. Just in case you have problems or need step-by-step instructions, click here .

If you have lost or forgot you administrator password for your XP or Vista computer, try using this program before reloading your system. Best of all, its free.

Would that also work for Vista? That is exactly what I’ve been trying to fix this past week. I don’t even remember setting an admin password. I’m so fed up with needless security I try to avoid it as much as I can. Anyway, now my nephew is visiting and he wants me to set up the file sharing so we can play a game together. I have the wireless network but can not get the access to each other’s PC for the game. Internet works great though. Anyway, will try that link but I’ve found Vista is on a planet of it’s own so it may not work.
